Re: Ray Stewart or Julian Dicks?
If my life depended on it I would pick Ray Stewart. If Noble were taking my life-saving penalty I would probably have a heart attack watching.

Re: Ray Stewart or Julian Dicks?
If you are talking penalties Ray Stewart without question.
As West Ham players it's Julian Dicks all day long.
Incidently Dicks must be the worst example of a Julian to have lived on Gods earth.

Re: Ray Stewart or Julian Dicks?
Can’t just compare penalties, Dicks took a phenomenal free kick and could score from open play too.

He was a great talent with a terrible attitude to training that caught up with him sadly.

Whoops
You're right. Misread "scored" for "how many taken". I did think stewart got more than 70.

In that case allow me to reevaluate

4 missed from 42 is 9.5% (noble)
10 missed from 86 is 11.6 (stewart)
7 missed from 43 is 16.3% (dicks)

Having just watched the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4rif1adM6I it has Noble 38 from 42.

Mad Dog 1:04 Fri Apr 17
Noble missed 9.5% (7% if you include rebounds)

Westside 1:12 Fri Apr 17
Those two early ones he missed (6&7) to be fair were very good saves.

The other one that was saved he scored the rebound, only missed the target once, not bad at all.

Re: Ray Stewart or Julian Dicks?
Ray Stewart for penalties for me all day long.
But Dicks was the better player, there aren’t many left backs then or now that can run a game from that position. Julian could.

Re: Ray Stewart or Julian Dicks?
Ray Stuart...although i saw him have a pen saved by Steve Hodge at Hillsborough

Ray Stewart....

For the last minute one at Wembley in a cup final and the ‘86 one against Ipswich.

Put them away under enormous pressure.

Cheezy- my brother had the penalty spot away that evening.

Geoff Hurst was good, bar the one Gordon Banks saved albeit a magnificent save

Re: Ray Stewart or Julian Dicks?
Noble's pen v Liverpool is one of my favourite moments as a fan. I remember feeling really pumped.

But it could never match Stewart v Ipswich in 86.

JLAP 9:21 Fri Apr 17
Re: Ray Stewart or Julian Dicks?
In terms of penalties only then definitely Tonka, West Ham’s penalty king even over Noble.

Dicks was a better all round player than Stewart tho IMHO

Still remember julian's pen v man u. If I remember correctly it clocked at 90 odd mph

Re: Ray Stewart or Julian Dicks?
Saw all Nobles penalties in a Youtube clip the other day. He had two saved in a row, quite early in his taking career (about 8th and 9th penalties). Did well to keep taking them after that.

If interested.

Didn't realise his last gasp winner, against the bin dippers in a 1 - 0 win, was only his second penalty for us.

Re: Ray Stewart or Julian Dicks?
Although only stats from the Premier League, the amount of penalty saves, has gone up significantly over the years, for what ever reasons.

https://www.myfootballfacts.com/premier-league/all-time-premier-league/premier-league-penalty-statistics/

Noble has been taking penalties, as more have been saved, so his record deserves even more credit.

Re: Ray Stewart or Julian Dicks?
Can't decide between them. Both as good as each other. Remember seeing many keepers visibly nervous as Stewart put the ball down, then measured his run-up...

Re: Ray Stewart or Julian Dicks?
Some rules seem to fall into disuse.

I've probably practiced archery on ONE Saturday in my entire life, but I've never paid Henry VIII's archery tax, even though it's still on the books.

The obstruction rule seems to have gone the same way.

Mad Dog 1:04 Fri Apr 17
Re: Ray Stewart or Julian Dicks?
Noble missed 11%
Stewart missed 13% (9% if you include rebounds)
Dicks missed 19%

However I'd have stuart taking a pen every day of the week. To sustain that level over 76 penalties is phenomenal. Especially in a day before all the stats and keeper preferences etc were analysed.

Re: Ray Stewart or Julian Dicks?
Julian all day long ... we was virtually a one man team fora few years... yup a left back being our main man... he was magnificent
